Category: Switch Management

Description: Monitors D-Link switch memory pool utilization and allocation statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MY-MEMORY-MIB?

MY-MEMORY-MIB is a D-Link proprietary MIB that monitors memory pool utilization on D-Link switches, tracking how the device's internal memory allocator is being consumed over time. It exposes a per-pool utilization table giving each named memory pool's current, lowest, and largest recorded utilization percentages, along with total pool size, used and free bytes, and configurable warning and critical utilization thresholds. This is a direct hardware/software health MIB focused on memory resource monitoring: administrators use it to detect memory leaks or exhaustion trends before they cause instability, crashes, or dropped features on the switch. It complements other system-health MIBs, such as those covering CPU load, that together give a fuller picture of device resource health. It is deployed on D-Link managed switches, particularly in environments with long uptimes where administrators want proactive alerting on memory exhaustion, and can download the MY-MEMORY-MIB file to load into their SNMP monitoring tools.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MY-MEMORY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls myMemoryPoolCurrentUtilization for each entry in myMemoryPoolUtilizationTable, keyed by myMemoryPoolIndex/myMemoryPoolName, to trend memory usage over time, and compares it against myMemoryPoolWarning and myMemoryPoolCritical thresholds to catch pools approaching exhaustion. A steady rise in myMemoryPoolUsed alongside a shrinking myMemoryPoolFree, with myMemoryPoolLargestUtilization creeping toward myMemoryPoolSize, would indicate a memory leak in a specific subsystem that risks a switch reload if left unaddressed.

What Can Be Monitored

  • current/lowest/highest memory pool utilization
  • memory pool size, used, and free bytes
  • memory warning and critical thresholds
  • per-pool utilization by name
