Description: Manages stacking topology and member unit settings on GBN stackable switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is GBNDeviceStack-MIB?
GBNDeviceStack-MIB is a GBN (Greentech/QTECH-family) enterprise MIB for managing switch stacking on GBN stackable switches. It exposes objects to enable or configure stacking (stackEnableRunning/stackEnableConfig), set the maximum number of stack units, and manage stackPortVirtualLinkTable entries describing the physical stacking links between member units, including their device, slot, and port identifiers and operating mode. It is directly relevant to monitoring the hardware/topology status of a switch stack: stackPortVirtualLinkLinkStatus reveals whether the physical link connecting two stack members is up, which is critical since a downed stacking link can split the stack or isolate a member unit, and a stackTrap is defined to notify on such stacking events. As a private enterprise MIB it doesn't declare dependency on other standard MIBs, though it complements the base switch MIBs for the same platform. It is deployed on stacked GBN Ethernet switches where several physical units are managed as one logical switch. Engineers can download the GBNDeviceStack-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GBNDeviceStack-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- GBN stackable Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would check stackPortVirtualLinkTable, keyed by stackPortVirtualLinkDevice/Slot/PortNum, and watch stackPortVirtualLinkLinkStatus to confirm every inter-unit stacking link is up. A link reported down alongside a stackTrap notification indicates a stack member has lost its stacking connection, risking a split stack, while comparing stackPortVirtualLinkModeRunning against stackPortVirtualLinkModeConfig can reveal a stacking port that failed to negotiate its configured mode.
What Can Be Monitored
- stacking enabled/disabled state
- maximum stack unit count
- stacking link status per member unit
- stacking port operating mode (running vs configured)
- stack topology change traps
