This value reports the rate, in lines per second, at which new lines are being written to the file monitored by the fscan agent. An admin watches it to judge how much log volume the agent is currently processing, which helps explain fluctuations in the matches and total counters for the configured scan patterns. For example, a sudden spike in lengthrate combined with a rising matches count for a particular pattern could indicate a burst of the event that pattern is designed to catch.
