Description: Brocade Foundry MPLS MIB providing label switched path configuration, LSP statistics, and MPLS forwarding table management for FastIron routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FOUNDRY-MPLS-MIB?

FOUNDRY-MPLS-MIB is Brocade's (formerly Foundry Networks) proprietary MIB for managing Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) on FastIron and NetIron switches/routers. It exposes configuration data for MPLS administrative (link-coloring) groups, MPLS-enabled interfaces and their assigned admin groups, configured label-switched path (LSP) counts, and general MPLS version/info objects, along with LSP-related notifications. It supports monitoring the software status of the MPLS control plane, such as the number of configured LSPs (mplsConfiguredLsps) and interface-level MPLS admin group assignments, and can raise notifications (mplsLspNotifications) when LSP state changes occur, which helps detect failed or flapping label-switched paths. It complements, without duplicating, the IETF standard MPLS-related MIBs (e.g., MPLS-LSR-MIB, MPLS-TE-MIB) by providing Brocade/Foundry-specific administrative group and interface objects. It's typically deployed on Brocade/Foundry FastIron and NetIron routers and switches that participate in an MPLS-enabled service-provider or enterprise core network. Engineers can download the FOUNDRY-MPLS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FOUNDRY-MPLS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Brocade/Foundry FastIron switch
  • Brocade/Foundry NetIron router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls brcdMplsInterfaceTable/brcdMplsInterfaceEntry (via brcdMplsInterfaceIndex) to confirm which MPLS interfaces are assigned to which brcdMplsInterfaceAdminGroup, cross-referencing brcdMplsAdminGroupTable for the human-readable brcdMplsAdminGroupName. mplsConfiguredLsps gives a running count of configured label-switched paths, so a sudden drop in that count combined with an mplsLspNotifications trap would indicate one or more LSPs went down. mplsVersion and mplsInfo/mplsLspInfo provide baseline MPLS software version and summary information for the device.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured LSP count
  • MPLS interface admin group assignment
  • admin group configuration
  • LSP notifications/traps
  • MPLS software version

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using mplsLspPackets OID:

Select a Brocade/Foundry FastIron/NetIron switch/router (MPLS) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type mplsLspPackets into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of egress Layer-3 VPN and IPoMPLS packets meeting the in-label and tunnel criteria. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
