Description: Brocade Foundry Power over Ethernet MIB providing per-port PoE power budget, status, and configuration management for FastIron PoE switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FOUNDRY-POE-MIB?

FOUNDRY-POE-MIB is a Brocade/Foundry proprietary MIB for managing Power over Ethernet on FastIron PoE-capable switches. It provides global PoE power budget objects alongside a per-port table describing power control state, wattage, power class, priority, and consumed power for each port and PoE module. It is squarely a hardware-status MIB: it lets an operator monitor global power capacity versus power actually free, detect when power allocation requests are being denied, and see per-port consumed wattage to identify overloaded or malfunctioning PoE ports and modules. There is no explicit cross-MIB dependency called out, though it is used alongside standard interface MIBs (IF-MIB) to correlate PoE port state with link state. It is deployed on Brocade/Foundry FastIron access switches that power IP phones, wireless access points, and cameras over Ethernet. Engineers can download the FOUNDRY-POE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FOUNDRY-POE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Brocade/Foundry FastIron PoE Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll snAgentPoeGblPowerCapacityTotal and snAgentPoeGblPowerCapacityFree to track how much PoE power budget remains free across the chassis, and watch snAgentPoeGblPowerAllocationsRequestsHonored to see if power requests are being rejected due to budget exhaustion. Walking snAgentPoePortTable/snAgentPoePortEntry gives per-port snAgentPoePortConsumed (wattage drawn), snAgentPoePortClass, and snAgentPoePortControl (enabled/disabled) values, which reveals a port drawing unexpectedly high wattage or one that has been auto-disabled due to a fault or priority-based shutdown.

What Can Be Monitored

  • total and free PoE power capacity
  • PoE power allocation requests honored
  • per-port PoE enable/control state
  • per-port power class and priority
  • per-port consumed wattage
