What Is FN100-MIB?

FN100-MIB is Fibronics' vendor-specific MIB for its FN100 line of 100BASE-T Fast Ethernet hubs, switches, and network adapters. It exposes protocol- and trunking-related configuration objects for switch ports, including per-interface bridge protocol settings (BPDU suppression, RIP listening) and link trunking/aggregation state. It supports monitoring hardware/software configuration status of switch ports rather than raw traffic counters: sfprotoBridge, sfprotoSuppressBpdu, and sfprotoRipListen indicate whether spanning-tree BPDUs or RIP routing updates are processed on a port, while sftrunkState reports whether a trunked link aggregation group is currently active. As a legacy vendor-specific MIB it builds on standard ifIndex-style indexing conventions rather than importing other enterprise MIBs directly. It was deployed in mid-1990s Fast Ethernet LAN environments using Fibronics FN100 switching hardware. Engineers can download the FN100-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FN100-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Legacy Fast Ethernet hub/switch (enterprise OID 3, CMU-registered) — Enterprise OID 3 resolves to Carnegie Mellon University (cmu), not Fibronics (enterprise OID 22, used elsewhere in this corpus) as previously described; the sibling FN10-MIB, sharing the same enterprise OID, was correctly left unattributed to any specific vendor.

Monitoring Examples

Polling sfprotoTable/sfprotoEntry by sfprotoIfIndex lets an operator check sfprotoBridge, sfprotoSuppressBpdu, and sfprotoTrunking settings per port to confirm switch protocol behavior matches the intended network design. The sftrunkTable/sftrunkEntry, indexed by sftrunkIfIndex, reports sftrunkState, revealing whether a configured link aggregation trunk between two FN100 switches is up or down. An unexpected sftrunkState change to down on a port expected to be part of an active trunk would indicate a failed link or misconfigured trunk member.
