Description: ADVA Optical Networking F3 platform MIB for Split Horizon Group (SHG) configuration for Ethernet ring and mesh topologies.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is F3-SHG-MIB?

F3-SHG-MIB is ADVA Optical Networking's Split Horizon Group MIB for the FSP150CM/CC platform, used to configure split-horizon forwarding groups that prevent traffic loops in Ethernet ring, mesh, and multipoint topologies. It exposes configuration tables for the groups themselves, their member ports, and their member flows, each with row status and storage type for provisioning control. As a monitoring resource it is primarily configuration/state-oriented: confirming which ports and flows belong to a split-horizon group and that their row status is active tells an operator whether loop-prevention is correctly provisioned, which matters for the software-level correctness of the Ethernet topology rather than physical hardware health. It relies on flow and port identifiers defined in companion F3 MIBs such as F3-FPM-MIB. It is deployed in carrier Ethernet networks using ADVA FSP150 nodes arranged in ring or mesh configurations where split-horizon groups protect against forwarding loops. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the F3-SHG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in F3-SHG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ADVA (now part of Adtran) FSP150CM/CC carrier Ethernet access/aggregation platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator would inspect f3ShgTable/f3ShgEntry by f3ShgIndex to confirm a group's f3ShgRowStatus is active, then check f3ShgMemberPortTable for f3ShgMemberPort entries to verify all intended ports participate in the split-horizon group. f3ShgMemberFlowTable similarly lists which flows are members, and a flow or port unexpectedly missing from these tables would explain unwanted forwarding between ports that should be blocked from talking to each other. This is used to validate loop-prevention provisioning after a ring topology change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • split-horizon group row status
  • member port list per group
  • member flow list per group
  • group configuration storage type
