What Is ADVA-FSPR7-CFM-EXTENSION-MIB?
ADVA-FSPR7-CFM-EXTENSION-MIB extends IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) support on ADVA Optical Networking's FSP R7 carrier Ethernet platform, adding ADVA-specific alarm-severity configuration and alarm-state objects layered on top of standard CFM maintenance-endpoint (MEP) constructs. It exposes both configuration data -- per-MEP alarm severity assignment (indexed by maintenance domain, maintenance association, and MEP identifier) -- and current alarm/fault state for those MEPs. Its monitoring value is squarely in fault monitoring: it lets an administrator see which CFM alarms (e.g. loss of continuity, remote defect indication) are currently active on a given MEP and at what configured severity, which is central to detecting Ethernet OAM connectivity faults on carrier Ethernet services. It has a clear dependency on the IEEE 802.1ag CFM standard and the associated standard CFM MIB, whose MD/MA/MEP indexing scheme it reuses and extends with ADVA-specific alarm objects. It is deployed on ADVA FSP R7-series carrier Ethernet network elements used by service providers for Ethernet OAM and SLA fault monitoring. Engineers can download the ADVA-FSPR7-CFM-EXTENSION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADVA-FSPR7-CFM-EXTENSION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ADVA Optical Networking FSP R7-series carrier Ethernet network elements
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll mepAlarmSeverityTable/mepAlarmSeverityEntry (indexed by mepAlarmSeverityMdIndex, mepAlarmSeverityMaNetIndex, mepAlarmSeverityMepIdentifier) to confirm the configured mepAlarmSeverityType/mepAlarmSeverityValue for a given maintenance endpoint, and would check mepAlarmTable/mepAlarmEntry for the same MEP to see if an alarm is currently active. A MEP reporting an active alarm entry when its severity is configured as critical would indicate a real connectivity fault (e.g. loss of continuity) on that carrier Ethernet service requiring immediate attention, while cfmAlarms/cfmAlarmObjects would be used to correlate module-wide alarm notifications.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-MEP alarm severity configuration
- active CFM alarm state per MEP
- connectivity fault (loss of continuity) alarms
- remote defect indication alarms
