Description: Dell Force10 MIB for S-Series fixed-configuration switch chassis inventory including power, fan, and module components.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is F10-S-SERIES-CHASSIS-MIB?

F10-S-SERIES-CHASSIS-MIB is a Dell (Force10 Networks) MIB that models the hardware chassis of the S-Series family of fixed-configuration top-of-rack switches running Dell Networking OS. Unlike the modular M-Series, S-Series units are fixed-form-factor but the MIB still exposes chassis-level inventory for components such as power supplies, fan modules, and any expansion/uplink modules present in the unit. Its main use is hardware status monitoring — determining whether power supplies are present and delivering power, whether fans are operating within normal ranges, and whether the unit or any stacked member is healthy. It is typically used together with other Dell/Force10 system MIBs and, where stacking is involved, stack-unit status objects, to give a complete picture of a stack of S-Series switches. Deployment is typical top-of-rack and access-layer switching in data centers, where multiple S-Series units are often stacked for resiliency. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the F10-S-SERIES-CHASSIS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in F10-S-SERIES-CHASSIS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell Force10 S-Series fixed-configuration switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator monitoring an S-Series stack would poll the power-supply status table to confirm each unit's PSU is present and in a normal operating state, and the fan status table to catch an overheating condition caused by a failed fan before it triggers thermal shutdown. Because exact object names were not present in the sampled data for this module, this describes the general power/fan/module monitoring pattern rather than citing specific identifiers.

What Can Be Monitored

  • power supply status
  • fan status
  • module/expansion card inventory
  • stack unit health
