Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is EVAPA-MIB?
EVAPA-MIB is an HP MIB (object prefix 'hpevapa') most consistent with HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) Performance Advisor, used to monitor performance counters and threshold-based alerting for HP EVA SAN storage arrays. It exposes an array/object/counter hierarchy: array identity, a managed object (such as a LUN, disk group, or controller) within that array, a named performance counter on that object, a configured detection threshold, and the counter's current measured value. Its primary monitoring use is software/performance-health tracking of the storage array — comparing actual counter values against configured detection levels to flag performance degradation, functioning much like a threshold/alarm mechanism for storage I/O performance rather than physical hardware sensors. It is most plausibly tied to HP's EVA Performance Advisor management software rather than an IETF standard MIB. It is deployed in enterprise SAN environments where HP EVA storage arrays are monitored for performance anomalies such as elevated latency or IOPS saturation. Engineers can download the EVAPA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EVAPA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) SAN storage systems
Monitoring Examples
hpevapaArray-ID/hpevapaArray-Name identify a monitored EVA storage array, hpevapaObject-ID/hpevapaObject-Type/hpevapaObject-Name identify a specific managed object within it (for example a LUN or disk group), and hpevapaCounter-Name names a specific performance metric on that object. An operator polls hpevapaActual-Value against the configured hpevapaDetect-Level to detect when, for example, latency or I/O load on a LUN has crossed its performance threshold, indicating the array or a component of it is becoming a bottleneck.
What Can Be Monitored
- storage array ID/name
- monitored object ID/type/name (e.g., LUN/disk group)
- performance counter name
- configured threshold/detection level
- actual measured counter value
