All MIBs › ERR-STATUS-MIB
Category: Device Management, Domain: Fault Management
Description: Provides error status objects and notification definitions for reporting operational error conditions on network devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ERR-STATUS-MIB?
ERR-STATUS-MIB is a small, generic vendor MIB that provides a simple log-style table of operational error conditions reported by a network device's management software, along with an associated notification. It exposes a table of recent error entries, each carrying a request ID, an error code, and a textual error description, plus a counter of the last used index and a stream-oriented errors object. In terms of hardware/software status, this MIB is squarely aimed at fault reporting: it lets a management station retrieve the most recent operational errors generated internally by the device's management agent or embedded software, functioning as a lightweight error/event log accessible via SNMP. There is no explicit dependency on other MIBs evident from the available description. It would typically be deployed on embedded or specialized network devices as a basic mechanism for surfacing internal software error conditions to a monitoring system without a full-featured syslog integration. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the ERR-STATUS-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERR-STATUS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- network devices with embedded management error logging
Monitoring Examples
A management station would walk errStatusTable/errStatusTableEntry, using errStatusLastIndex to know the most recent entry, and read errReqId, errCode, and errStatusDesc for each row to see what internal request failed and why. A nonzero or unexpected errCode value together with a descriptive errStatusDesc string (e.g., referencing strmErrors) would flag an internal software fault that an operator should investigate, even without a corresponding SNMP trap.
What Can Be Monitored
- recent internal error entries
- error code
- error description text
- last error table index
- stream error counters
