Organization: Axis Communications AB

Last Updated: 2012-06-08

Category: Device Management, Vendor: Axis Communications

Description: Defines the root OID enterprise hierarchy for Axis Communications network devices including IP cameras and video encoders.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AXIS-ROOT-MIB?

AXIS-ROOT-MIB is a vendor infrastructure SNMP module from Axis Communications that simply defines the top-level enterprise OID node under which all of Axis's product-specific MIBs (for IP cameras, video encoders, and related network video devices) are rooted. It does not itself expose any managed objects, tables, or traps - it exists purely to register the "axis" branch of the enterprise OID tree that other Axis MIBs import and build upon. As a pure OID-registration module it exposes no hardware or software status data of its own; monitoring of actual camera/encoder health (uptime, video stream status, storage, temperature) happens in the separate Axis product MIBs that reference this root. Its only "dependency" is structural - it anchors itself under the IANA-assigned enterprises subtree used by all vendor MIBs. Typical deployment context is any network video/IP surveillance environment using Axis cameras or encoders, where this module is loaded as a prerequisite for the vendor's functional MIBs, since the AXIS-ROOT-MIB OID tree anchors all of them.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AXIS-ROOT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Axis Communications IP camera/video encoder (root OID definition only)

Monitoring Examples

This module defines no runtime data objects - it is a root/enumeration MIB providing only the OID anchor point ("axis" under enterprises) for other Axis MIBs to extend. There is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe here since it contains no pollable tables or scalars; actual camera status monitoring is done via Axis's device-specific MIB modules that sit beneath this root.
