Description: Declares SNMP agent capabilities for the Ericsson Router PVC (Permanent Virtual Circuit) management MIB.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-PVC-CAP?

ERICSSON-ROUTER-PVC-CAP is an Ericsson AGENT-CAPABILITIES MIB - it contains no managed objects of its own, only capability statements describing which parts of the separate ERICSSON-ROUTER-PVC-MIB a given Ericsson router software release actually implements. Each eriRouterPvcMibCapN entry ties a PRODUCT-RELEASE string (AOS 5.x/6.x, SEOS 2.4.4/2.6.3/6.0.3, spanning the SmartEdge/SE, Metro/SM, and Smart Service Router/SSR families) to an INCLUDES list of object groups (eriRouterAtmPvcGroup, eriRouterFrameRelayPvcGroup, eriRouterDot1qPvcOnEth/Atm/FrGroup) and a series of VARIATION clauses restricting write access, syntax, or row-creation behavior for objects like eriRouterAtmPvcEncapsulation, eriRouterAtmPvcRowStatus, and eriRouterDot1qPvcOnEthVlanId. This lets a management application discover, per platform release, exactly which ATM/Frame Relay/dot1q PVC encapsulation types and row-status transitions are supported before attempting a SET. It is deployed as a companion reference alongside the ERICSSON-ROUTER-PVC-MIB on Ericsson SmartEdge, Metro, and SSR router platforms, and provisioning tools reference the ERICSSON-ROUTER-PVC-CAP MIB to validate PVC configuration requests against the target release's actual capabilities.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-PVC-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge (SE), Metro Ethernet (SM), and Smart Service Router (SSR) platform families

Monitoring Examples

Before issuing a SET on eriRouterAtmPvcEncapsulation, a provisioning tool checks the applicable eriRouterPvcMibCapN VARIATION clause for the router's software release; discovering that the release restricts writes to a read-only subset of encapsulation values (as in eriRouterPvcMibCap3 or Cap5) would explain a rejected SET that works fine on a newer AOS 6.x release.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-release supported PVC object groups (ATM, Frame Relay, dot1q)
  • PVC encapsulation type support/write restrictions per release
  • PVC row-status transition support per release
  • dot1q VLAN ID range restrictions per platform
