Description: Manages the master SNMP agent configuration and subagent registrations on Ericsson routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-MASTER-AGENT-MIB?

ERICSSON-ROUTER-MASTER-AGENT-MIB is an Ericsson vendor MIB that manages the AgentX master SNMP agent process on Ericsson router platforms, tracking the registration and health of the subagent processes that plug into it. It exposes objects describing the master agent itself and the reasons subagent sessions have closed, giving visibility into the internal SNMP daemon architecture of the router. This is directly a software-status MIB: it lets operators monitor whether the router's own management-plane process (the SNMP master/subagent framework) is functioning correctly, surfacing abnormal subagent disconnect reasons that can indicate a crashed or hung management module. It is built on the standard AgentX protocol architecture (RFC 2741) that defines the master/subagent relationship it manages. It is used by operators and vendors troubleshooting SNMP responsiveness issues on Ericsson SmartEdge/SM/SSR routers, where a missing or flapping subagent explains gaps in polled data. Engineers can download the ERICSSON-ROUTER-MASTER-AGENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-MASTER-AGENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge (SE) Multi-service Edge Router
  • Ericsson SM Metro Ethernet platform
  • Ericsson Smart Service Router (SSR)

Monitoring Examples

An operator noticing that certain MIB branches (e.g., OSPF or interface stats) stop responding on a router would check eriRouterAgentxSessionCloseReason to see if a subagent handling that feature has recently disconnected and why, distinguishing a deliberate restart from an unexpected crash. eriRouterMasterAgent status objects are polled to confirm the master AgentX process itself is up before troubleshooting further into individual subagents. Repeated non-zero close-reason codes across polling intervals indicate an unstable subagent that needs a management-plane restart or software fix.

What Can Be Monitored

  • master AgentX process status
  • subagent session close reason
  • SNMP subagent connectivity/stability
