What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-SONET-CAP?
ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-SONET-CAP is an Ericsson vendor-specific AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that documents how Ericsson's SmartEdge/SEOS routers implement the standards-track SONET-MIB (RFC 3592) across three platform releases — AOS 3.0.X.X, SEOS 2.0.4, and SEOS 2.6.5.X (SE) / SEOS 11.1.x (SM, SSR). Each capability statement (eriRouterIetfSonetCap1/2/3) INCLUDES SONET-MIB groups such as sonetMediumStuff2, sonetSectionStuff2, sonetLineStuff2, sonetPathStuff2, and the far-end line/path stuff groups, and applies VARIATION clauses forcing objects like sonetMediumType, sonetMediumLineCoding, sonetMediumLineType, sonetMediumCircuitIdentifier, sonetMediumLoopbackConfig, sonetSESthresholdSet, and sonetPathCurrentWidth to read-only, since Ericsson's agent does not support SNMP SET on those fields. Because it only reshapes access rather than adding objects, its monitoring value is telling an operator or NMS exactly which SONET/SDH medium, section, line, and path objects can be polled — and which write attempts will fail — on a given SmartEdge/SEOS release, which matters when building generic SONET-MIB polling templates for mixed-vendor networks. It depends on the standard SONET-MIB for all real object definitions and on ERICSSON-ROUTER-SMI for its eriRouterCapabilities registration point, and it is deployed on Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER), SM Metro Ethernet, and Smart Service Router (SSR) platforms carrying SONET/SDH interfaces, with the ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-SONET-CAP MIB serving as the reference for per-release SONET object support on those routers.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-SONET-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ericsson SmartEdge (MSER), SM Metro Ethernet, and Smart Service Router (SSR) platforms
Monitoring Examples
An operator checks eriRouterIetfSonetCap3 before polling sonetMediumLoopbackConfig or sonetSESthresholdSet on a SEOS 11.1.x SSR, confirming both are read-only on this release; an unexpected write failure on sonetPathCurrentWidth would be explained by the same VARIATION rather than indicating an agent bug.
What Can Be Monitored
- SONET medium/section/line/path group support per release
- read-only variation on medium type, line coding, and line type
- circuit identifier and loopback configuration access restriction
- SES threshold-set access restriction
- far-end line/path stuff group support
