Description: Tracks per-BGP-peer and per-prefix traffic volume accounting statistics on Ericsson service provider router platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-BGP-ACCOUNTING-MIB?
The ERICSSON-ROUTER-BGP-ACCOUNTING-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Ericsson for its SmartEdge/Smart Service Router (SSR) family of service-provider routers, used to implement BGP policy-based accounting. It exposes traffic accounting buckets keyed by BGP policy attributes such as community lists and AS paths, tracking inbound packet and octet counts per circuit and interface. While primarily a traffic-accounting MIB rather than a hardware-health MIB, it supports operational monitoring of software-level state -- specifically the BGP accounting subsystem's per-bucket counters, context bindings, and interface associations -- letting operators detect stalled counters, misconfigured accounting policies, or unexpected traffic volume that might signal routing or configuration faults. It builds on BGP concepts (community/AS-path based classification) and is scoped per SNMP context (community string in v1/v2c, contextName in v3), reflecting Ericsson's multi-context router architecture. It is typically deployed in service-provider networks running Ericsson SmartEdge/SSR routers where operators need granular, policy-driven billing or traffic-engineering visibility per BGP peer and circuit. Engineers can download the ERICSSON-ROUTER-BGP-ACCOUNTING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-BGP-ACCOUNTING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER)
- Ericsson Smart Service Router (SSR)
- Ericsson SM Metro Ethernet Service Transport platform
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll eriRouterBpaTable/eriRouterBpaEntry, indexed by eriRouterBpaBucketIndex, to retrieve eriRouterBpaInPacketCount and eriRouterBpaInOctetCount for a given eriRouterBpaCircuitDescr and eriRouterBpaInterfaceName. A sudden flattening of these counters for a bucket that previously showed steady growth would indicate the BGP accounting bucket has stopped receiving matching traffic, possibly due to a route change or misapplied community/AS-path filter. Correlating eriRouterBpaContextName across contexts helps confirm whether the anomaly is isolated to one VRF/context or affects the whole router.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-BGP-policy inbound packet counts
- per-BGP-policy inbound octet counts
- accounting bucket index
- circuit description
- interface name
- SNMP context name
