Category: Protocol: BGP, Standard: IETF, Vendor: Ericsson

Description: Declares Ericsson router agent capabilities for the IETF BGP-4 MIB (RFC 4273).

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-BGP4-CAP?

This AGENT-CAPABILITIES module declares which objects of the standard IETF BGP4-MIB (RFC 4273) are implemented on Ericsson SEOS-based router platforms, rather than defining new BGP objects itself. It is purely conformance metadata, scoping support for standard BGP peer state, route, and statistics objects per Ericsson product family and software release. Indirectly it relates to routing protocol status monitoring by defining which BGP4-MIB peer/session status objects (e.g., peer state, established time) are actually available on a platform, though it exposes no runtime data on its own. It explicitly depends on the IETF BGP4-MIB (RFC 4273) for the objects it scopes conformance against. It is used by NMS and MIB-compiler tooling to determine BGP monitoring capability on Ericsson SmartEdge (SE), SM, and SSR router families, where the ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-BGP4-CAP MIB is consulted during compilation.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-IETF-BGP4-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge (SE) routers
  • Ericsson SM Metro Ethernet platforms
  • Ericsson Smart Service Router (SSR) family

Monitoring Examples

As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, it defines no pollable objects of its own; it instead documents which objects of the standard BGP4-MIB (such as BGP peer state and session statistics) are supported on a given Ericsson SEOS release, so no concrete monitoring scenario applies beyond this conformance mapping.
