Description: Enterasys Networks extension to the RS-232 MIB providing additional serial port management objects and CTS link control.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ENTERASYS-RS-232-MIB-EXT-MIB?
ENTERASYS-RS-232-MIB-EXT-MIB is an Enterasys Networks proprietary extension to the industry-standard RS-232-MIB, adding vendor-specific serial port management objects for VT100 terminal emulation behavior and CTS (Clear To Send) hardware flow-control link status. Its data covers serial console/port configuration and link-control state: DSR (Data Set Ready) enable state and timeout for VT100-style sessions, and CTS link enable state for hardware flow control on RS-232 interfaces. Monitoring value is narrow but useful for console/management access assurance, confirming that a device's serial management port's flow-control and DSR/VT100 settings are correctly enabled, which affects whether out-of-band console access behaves reliably, though it is not a general hardware or performance health module. It explicitly extends the standard IETF RS232-MIB, depending on that base module for the core serial port object structure it augments. It is deployed on Enterasys Networks switches and routers with RS-232 console/management ports in enterprise network environments. Engineers can download the ENTERASYS-RS-232-MIB-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-RS-232-MIB-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Enterasys Networks switch/router with RS-232 console port
Monitoring Examples
An administrator checks etsysRs232Vt100ExtTable/etsysRs232Vt100ExtEntry to confirm etsysRs232Vt100DsrEnableState and etsysRs232Vt100DsrTimeout are set as expected for a VT100 console session, and separately reviews etsysRs232CtsLinkExtTable/etsysRs232CtsLinkExtEntry for etsysRs232CtsLinkEnableState to verify hardware flow control is enabled on a given serial port. If a technician reports a console session unexpectedly dropping or hanging, mismatched DSR timeout or disabled CTS flow control on that port would be a likely cause to check.
What Can Be Monitored
- DSR enable state
- DSR timeout
- CTS link enable state (flow control)
- VT100 serial session settings

RFC description
Extends RS-232 MIB with Enterasys proprietary serial port management features and VT100 terminal support.
Start monitoring Enterasys Networks switch (legacy, later Extreme Networks)/router (RS-232 console port extensions) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
