Description: An Enterasys Networks MIB that provides SNMP notifications for tracking IPv6 router advertisement events on network interfaces.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ENTERASYS-RTR-ADVERT-NOTIFICATION-MIB?
This Enterasys enterprise MIB defines SNMP notifications (traps) for IPv6 Router Advertisement (RA) events observed on a device's interfaces, such as detecting inconsistent or conflicting RA information from multiple routers. It exposes notification objects carrying the inconsistency flag, the offending router's IPv6 address (etsysRtrAdvertInetAddrType/InetAddress), and free-form user data describing the event. Rather than continuous polling data, its monitoring value is fault/event-oriented: it alerts operators to misconfigured or rogue IPv6 routers advertising conflicting prefixes/parameters on the local network segment, a condition that can silently break IPv6 connectivity. It relies on standard InetAddress textual conventions for representing IP addresses. It is typically deployed in dual-stack or IPv6 enterprise networks using Enterasys switches/routers to detect IPv6 router misconfigurations. Engineers can download the ENTERASYS-RTR-ADVERT-NOTIFICATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-RTR-ADVERT-NOTIFICATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Enterasys Networks switches/routers
Monitoring Examples
When an Enterasys device detects a Router Advertisement inconsistency on a segment (e.g., two routers advertising conflicting IPv6 prefixes), it emits a notification containing etsysRtrAdvertInconsistentEnabled state along with etsysRtrAdvertInetAddress identifying the conflicting router; the NMS would use this trap to alert operators without needing to poll, since no ongoing counters are exposed. This is fundamentally an event/trap-driven MIB rather than one with pollable runtime tables.
What Can Be Monitored
- IPv6 Router Advertisement inconsistency events
- offending router's IPv6 address
- notification enable/disable state

RFC description
Enterasys Networks MIB defining SNMP notifications for monitoring IPv6 router advertisement events on network interfaces.
Start monitoring Enterasys Networks switch (legacy, later Extreme Networks)/router (IPv6 Router Advertisement conflict traps) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
