Category: Technology: Link Aggregation, Vendor: Enterasys/Cabletron

Description: Enterasys Networks proprietary extension to the IEEE 802.3ad LAG MIB providing additional link aggregation port objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ENTERASYS-IEEE8023-LAG-MIB-EXT-MIB?

This is an Enterasys Networks enterprise MIB that supplements the IEEE 802.3ad (now 802.1AX) Link Aggregation Group MIB with vendor-specific link aggregation objects for Enterasys switches. It exposes configuration data controlling global LAG behavior, such as whether single-port LAGs can be formed, plus per-port aggregation enable settings. Rather than deep hardware sensors, its monitoring value is in confirming the operational/administrative status of link aggregation ports so that flapping or misconfigured LAG members can be identified. It is explicitly an extension to the standard IEEE8023-LAG-MIB and should be interpreted together with that base MIB's aggregator and port state objects. It is used in enterprise and data center network deployments where Enterasys/Extreme switches carry aggregated (bonded) Ethernet links between switches or to servers. Engineers can download the ENTERASYS-IEEE8023-LAG-MIB-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-IEEE8023-LAG-MIB-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys (Extreme Networks) enterprise switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check etsysDot3adAggGlobalEnable to confirm link aggregation is enabled system-wide, and etsysDot3adAggGlobalFormSinglePortLags to see whether single-port LAGs are permitted during a partial link failure. Polling etsysDot3adAggPortTable / etsysDot3adAggPortEntry with etsysDot3adAggPortEnable per port lets the admin spot a LAG member port that has been administratively disabled, which would explain reduced aggregate throughput or a LAG falling out of expected redundancy.

What Can Be Monitored

  • global LAG enable state
  • single-port LAG formation policy
  • per-port LAG enable status
  • aggregation port table state
