Category: Vendor: Eltex
Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for Eltex network devices covering fault, status change, and operational alert events.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ELTEX-TRAPS-MIB?
ELTEX-TRAPS-MIB is a compact Eltex Enterprise proprietary MIB that defines SNMP notifications for Eltex MES-series switches, registered under the vendor's eltNotifications MODULE-IDENTITY. In its current revision it defines exactly two NOTIFICATION-TYPE events — i2cBusFailure and i2cBusOperational — both carrying the same pair of varbinds, rndErrorDesc and rndErrorSeverity, imported from the shared RADLAN-DEVICEPARAMS-MIB used across the underlying RADLAN switch-chip platform. i2cBusFailure reports that repeated I2C bus I/O transactions have failed and repair attempts were unsuccessful, meaning all I2C-controllable hardware nodes on the switch (typically SFP/transceiver diagnostics, temperature sensors, and PSU/fan controllers accessed over I2C) are now inaccessible, while i2cBusOperational reports that a previously-stuck bus has recovered. Because the module carries no configuration or counter objects of its own, its entire value is as a hardware-health early-warning signal riding on the broader RADLAN-derived trap infrastructure (it also imports STP-related varbinds from RADLAN-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB for other traps in the family). It is deployed on Eltex MES-series Ethernet switches, and ELTEX-TRAPS-MIB SNMP monitoring of these two traps is important for catching an internal management-bus failure before it silently blinds the switch's sensor and transceiver-diagnostics subsystems.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-TRAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Eltex MES-series Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator's trap receiver alerts on an i2cBusFailure notification carrying rndErrorDesc and rndErrorSeverity; if no matching i2cBusOperational recovery trap follows within a reasonable window, it indicates the switch's I2C-controlled sensors and transceiver diagnostics are still unreachable and hardware service may be required.
What Can Be Monitored
- I2C bus failure notifications
- I2C bus recovery notifications
- error description varbind (rndErrorDesc)
- error severity varbind (rndErrorSeverity)
