Description: Eltex MES Flex Links MIB for managing active/backup port pair failover on MES switches as a lightweight STP alternative.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ELTEX-MES-FLEX-LINKS-MIB?
ELTEX-MES-FLEX-LINKS-MIB is a private Eltex MIB for the Flex Links feature on MES-series switches, providing an active/backup Layer-2 interface pair failover mechanism as a lightweight alternative to running full Spanning Tree Protocol. Its data covers per-pair configuration (which interface is primary and which is backup), preemption mode/delay settings, and the operational status of each flex-link pair, plus a status-change notification. It directly supports link/interface health monitoring: eltFlIfStatusTable reveals which member of a flex-link pair, primary or backup, is currently forwarding traffic, letting an operator detect that a failover has occurred because the primary uplink failed, while the status-change notification alerts to such a switchover in real time. It functions as an alternative to standard Spanning Tree Protocol (IEEE 802.1D/802.1w) and complements the standard IF-MIB for the underlying interface indices. It is deployed on Eltex MES access/aggregation switches in service-provider or enterprise networks that need fast, simple link redundancy without running full STP, typically after an ELTEX-MES-FLEX-LINKS-MIB download to load the module into a MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MES-FLEX-LINKS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Eltex MES-series Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls eltFlIfConfigTable/eltFlIfConfigEntry (eltFlIfConfigPrimary, eltFlIfConfigBackUp) to confirm which interfaces form a flex-link pair, then checks eltFlIfStatusTable/eltFlIfStatusEntry (indexed by eltFlIfIndex) to see which interface is currently forwarding traffic, detecting an unexpected failover to the backup link that would indicate a fault on the primary uplink. eltFlIfConfigExtTable's eltFlIfConfigPreemptionMode and eltFlIfConfigPreemptionDelay would be checked to confirm whether the primary link automatically reclaims active status after recovering, and after how long.
What Can Be Monitored
- flex-link primary/backup interface configuration
- active/backup interface status
- preemption mode and delay
- flex-link status-change notifications
