Category: Network Interfaces

Description: Enterprise channel management MIB defining objects for configuring and monitoring network channel interfaces and their status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ECHN-MIB?

This enterprise MIB (using the "nbs"/"nbSwitch" object prefix) manages Ethernet channel (link aggregation/trunk) configuration and status on managed switches. It exposes configuration limits and counts for channel groups (possible, maximum, running, and permanent channel counts) along with a running-channel table detailing each channel's index, operational status, and the list of member/linked ports. Its monitoring relevance is primarily link-aggregation health and configuration status: confirming how many trunk groups are configured versus the hardware maximum, which channels are currently running, and their member port composition, which helps detect a failed or partially-formed aggregation link. It has no strong dependency on external standard MIBs, appearing to be a self-contained private enterprise extension, though it parallels concepts in the standard IEEE 802.3ad/LACP MIB. It is deployed on enterprise managed switches that support Ethernet link aggregation/trunking for uplink redundancy and bandwidth aggregation. Engineers can download the ECHN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ECHN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • nBase Communications managed Ethernet switch (link aggregation/trunk) — Identified as nBase Communications via enterprise OID 629 (token 'nbase'), not a generic unattributed switch as previously described.

Monitoring Examples

An admin can compare nbsEthChnRunNum against nbsEthChnMaxNum to see how many aggregated channels are active relative to hardware capacity, then walk nbsEthChnRunTable/nbsEthChnRunEntry to check each nbsEthChnRunIndex's nbsEthChnRunStatus and its nbsEthChnRunLinkList of member ports. A channel showing a down status, or a link list missing an expected port, would reveal a failed member link degrading the aggregate bandwidth.

What Can Be Monitored

  • possible/maximum/running/permanent channel counts
  • per-channel operational status
  • channel member port list
  • channel link list
