Category: Network Interfaces, VLAN and Bridging

Description: Manages bridging configuration and forwarding database on AI-series network access devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AIBRIDGE-MIB?

AIBRIDGE-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Applied Innovation for managing the IEEE 802.1D transparent bridging function on AI-series network access and terminal server devices. It exposes bridge-level identification data such as the bridge's MAC address, the number of active ports, and per-port spanning tree state, along with mappings between bridge ports and underlying interface indices. While primarily a configuration/topology MIB rather than a deep hardware-health MIB, it supports monitoring device operational status by exposing bridge type, port count, and STP state per port, letting an administrator confirm the bridging engine is initialized correctly and that expected ports are present and forwarding. It closely parallels (and is derived from) the standard BRIDGE-MIB (RFC 4188/1493), reusing its object naming conventions with an "ai" vendor prefix. It is typically deployed on Applied Innovation remote access concentrators and terminal servers used in telecom central offices and remote equipment sites where basic Ethernet bridging between management and data interfaces is required. Engineers can download the AIBRIDGE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AIBRIDGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Applied Innovation remote access device
  • Applied Innovation terminal server

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll aiDot1dBaseNumPorts to confirm the expected number of bridged ports are present, then walk aiDot1dBasePortTable/aiDot1dBasePortEntry to check aiDot1dBasePortStpIndex and aiDot1dBasePortIfIndex for each port, revealing which physical interfaces are mapped into the bridge and their spanning-tree port index. A mismatch between the expected port count and the number of rows returned, or an unexpected aiDot1dBaseBridgeAddress, would indicate a bridge configuration problem or hardware fault.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bridge MAC address
  • number of bridge ports
  • bridge type
  • per-port STP index
  • port-to-interface mapping
