Category: IP Routing
Description: Covers the configuration of route redistribution policies between routing protocols on Dell devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Dell-Redistribute?
Dell-Redistribute is a Dell Networking enterprise MIB, built on the same RADLAN-derived object naming as other Dell switch MIBs, for configuring route redistribution policy between routing protocols, such as redistributing static or OSPF routes into another protocol's routing domain. It exposes a redistribution table defining source and destination protocols, process IDs, route-map based match criteria, and metric type/value/AS-number settings applied during redistribution. This is configuration-focused rather than hardware-status data, but monitoring it is still valuable operationally: an administrator polls the redistribution table to confirm route-leaking policy between protocols is correctly provisioned, catching cases where an unintended source protocol is redistributing routes or a metric setting is causing routes to be preferred or de-preferred incorrectly. It is inherently dependent on the underlying routing-protocol MIBs, such as OSPF-MIB or RIP2-MIB, whose routes are being redistributed. It is deployed on Dell Networking (PowerConnect/Force10-heritage) switches and routers running multiple routing protocols that need controlled route exchange between them. Engineers can download the Dell-Redistribute file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-Redistribute. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Dell Networking (PowerConnect/Force10-heritage) switches and routers
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll rlRedistTable/rlRedistEntry to check rlRedistSrcProtocol and rlRedistDstProtocol for a given entry, confirming that, for example, OSPF routes are correctly being redistributed into RIP with the intended rlRedistMetricType and rlRedistMetricValue. An unexpected rlRedistRoutMapName or rlRedistMatchType could explain why certain routes are unexpectedly appearing or missing in the destination protocol's routing table.
What Can Be Monitored
- route redistribution table entries
- source/destination protocol pairs
- redistribution metric type/value
- route-map match criteria
- AS number for redistribution
