Category: IP Routing
Description: Manages Nortel Magellan Passport IPX protocol routing, SAP table, and interface configuration.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-IpxMIB?
This MIB manages Novell IPX protocol routing on Nortel's Magellan Passport switching platform, including interface provisioning, SNMP administrative control, and RIP-based route exchange. It belongs to the Nortel legacy multiprotocol WAN switching technology area. It exposes provisioning and row-status tables for IPX-enabled interfaces (vrPpIpxP), an admin-control table governing SNMP management state per interface, and a RIP sub-component (vrPpIpxPRipP) for route propagation. Its role is chiefly in configuring and verifying IPX routing interface status, confirming an interface is provisioned and its SNMP admin status is enabled, and by extension whether IPX RIP routes are being exchanged, useful for detecting a misconfigured or administratively disabled IPX interface causing routing loss. It is built on Novell's IPX/RIP protocol concepts rather than an IETF SNMP MIB standard. It is typically deployed on legacy Nortel Magellan Passport multiprotocol WAN switches carrying IPX traffic for Novell NetWare-era enterprise networks, where Nortel-Magellan-Passport-IpxMIB SNMP monitoring helped confirm IPX interfaces remained provisioned and active.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-IpxMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel Magellan Passport multiprotocol WAN switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would check vrPpIpxPRowStatusTable/vrPpIpxPRowStatus to confirm an IPX interface component is provisioned active, and vrPpIpxPAdminControlTable/vrPpIpxPSnmpAdminStatus to verify SNMP management of that interface is enabled rather than disabled. If vrPpIpxPSnmpAdminStatus shows the interface administratively down, or the RIP sub-component vrPpIpxPRipP shows no active routes, this would indicate IPX connectivity or route propagation has been lost on that link. This reflects the Passport platform's typical row-status-driven provisioning-and-verification model.
