Description: Manages file copy operations for firmware, configuration, and image transfers on Dell switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-COPY-MIB?

Dell-COPY-MIB is a Dell networking switch module (built on the common Radlan/RLC private-MIB base, hence the "rl" object prefix) that manages file transfer operations such as firmware upgrades, configuration backups, and image copies between the switch and remote hosts. It exposes configuration and job-tracking data describing copy operations: source and destination locations, IP addresses, file names/types, and per-unit stacking targets. In terms of hardware/software status, its primary monitoring value is tracking the status and outcome of software/firmware transfer jobs on the switch, which is directly tied to software version management and update success rather than general environmental health. It has no strong dependency on external standard MIBs beyond typical private-enterprise conventions, being a self-contained vendor extension. It is typically used by network administrators automating firmware or configuration deployment across a fleet of Dell (or Dell-rebranded Radlan-based) managed switches. Engineers can download the Dell-COPY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-COPY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell managed switches (Radlan/RLC-based)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would create/poll an entry in rlCopyTable via rlCopyIndex, setting rlCopySourceLocation, rlCopySourceIpAddress, rlCopySourceFileName, and rlCopySourceFileType alongside rlCopyDestinationLocation and rlCopyDestinationIpAddress to push a new firmware image to a specific rlCopySourceUnitNumber in a stack. Checking the resulting row status would reveal whether the copy succeeded, and rlCopyMirror could confirm whether the image was also mirrored to a secondary destination, letting the admin detect a failed or incomplete firmware push before rebooting the switch.

What Can Be Monitored

  • firmware/config copy job status
  • source and destination file locations
  • source/destination IP addresses
  • file name and type being transferred
  • target stack unit for copy operation
