Description: Monitors Dell MD-series modular disk storage arrays including volume, controller, and disk status.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DellMDStorageArray?
This is Dell's private MIB for the Dell/EMC PowerVault MD-series modular disk storage arrays, covering the array's controllers, physical disks, virtual disks/volumes, and enclosure hardware. It exposes storage-domain data such as array/controller identity, disk group and virtual disk configuration, and hardware component status for the storage subsystem. It is squarely a hardware-health monitoring MIB: it is used to track controller and disk status, RAID/virtual-disk state, and general enclosure component health (power supplies, fans, temperature sensors) so administrators can detect a failed or degraded drive, a controller failover event, or an environmental fault before data loss occurs. It typically works alongside the SMI-S/CIM-based management interface Dell also provides for MD arrays, with this MIB offering a simpler SNMP-only view for basic alerting. It is deployed wherever a Dell/EMC PowerVault MD-series array is attached to a server (often via the mdStorageManager management software) needing SNMP trap-based alerting into an existing NMS. Engineers can download the DellMDStorageArray file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DellMDStorageArray. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Dell/EMC PowerVault MD-series modular disk storage array
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll status objects under the array's storage branch (rooted at dell.storage / mdStorageManager) to check controller and virtual disk health, and would rely on SNMP traps generated by mdStorageManager to alert on a failed physical disk or a degraded RAID virtual disk. The available sample objects here are limited to top-level branch names (dell, storage, hardware, mdStorageManager) rather than detailed leaf objects, so exact disk/controller status object names would need to be confirmed from the full MIB tree, but the general monitoring intent covers array, controller, disk, and enclosure hardware status.
What Can Be Monitored
- storage array status
- controller status
- virtual disk/RAID status
- physical disk status
- enclosure hardware health
