All MIBs › DRAFT-FDDI-MIB-VER-3-2
Category: Domain: Telco/Transport
Description: A draft-stage MIB covering management of FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface) rings, including topology, station information, and error statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DRAFT-FDDI-MIB-VER-3-2?
This is an IETF draft, vendor-neutral standards MIB for managing FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface) ring networks, an older fiber-optic token-passing LAN technology. It exposes data on ring topology, individual station configuration, and MAC/PHY-layer error statistics. Its monitoring value is centered on hardware and link status: station operational state, ring insertion/beacon condition, and error counters that reveal physical-layer faults such as cable breaks or misbehaving stations disrupting the ring. It builds on the earlier FDDI SMT (Station Management) framework defined in related IETF specifications rather than any vendor's proprietary tree. As a DRAFT-FDDI-MIB-VER-3-2 reference, it would typically have been deployed in legacy campus or enterprise backbone networks using FDDI, a technology now largely obsolete and replaced by Ethernet.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DRAFT-FDDI-MIB-VER-3-2. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- FDDI-capable network interface/station
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were supplied for this module, so specific table names cannot be cited with confidence. Conceptually, based on the short description, an administrator would monitor station and ring status objects to detect a station dropping out of the ring or a rising error counter indicating a failing fiber link or connector. Such conditions would typically manifest as ring instability or repeated beacon-frame conditions on the topology.
What Can Be Monitored
- FDDI ring station operational status
- ring topology/beacon condition
- MAC/PHY-layer error counters
