What Is DIGI-SERIAL-ALARM-TRAPS-MIB?
This is a Digi International vendor MIB defining SNMP notifications (traps) for serial port alarm conditions on Digi serial device servers/console servers. Rather than exposing pollable configuration or performance tables, it is primarily a fault/event notification module: it defines the trap(s) sent when a serial port alarm condition occurs, along with a varbind describing the alarm. As a monitoring module its role is fault status monitoring for serial connectivity -- alerting an NMS in near-real time when a monitored serial line experiences a problem such as a disconnect or signal-loss condition, complementing periodic polling with immediate event notification. It depends on the device's core system/interface MIBs to identify which port or unit generated the alarm. It is deployed on Digi serial device servers/console servers used to provide remote/networked access to serial equipment, with the traps received by an SNMP trap collector or NMS after administrators complete a DIGI-SERIAL-ALARM-TRAPS-MIB download to load it into their monitoring tools.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DIGI-SERIAL-ALARM-TRAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Digi serial device server / console server (e.g. Digi PortServer, ConnectPort)
Monitoring Examples
This module is oriented around notifications rather than runtime data tables: when a serial port alarm condition occurs (for example, a lost connection or signal-loss event), the device sends a trap whose serialAlarmSubject varbind contains a text description of the specific alarm condition and affected port. An NMS configured to receive Digi serial alarm traps would use this field to identify and log which serial line raised the alert, rather than polling it directly.
What Can Be Monitored
- serial port alarm/disconnect events (via trap)
