What Is DIGI-SMI?
DIGI-SMI is the Structure of Management Information module for Digi International, defining the top-level enterprise OID tree and subtrees for Digi's product line, common definitions, capabilities, requirements, and experimental branches. It is a registration and naming module rather than a data-exposing one, so it does not itself carry interface, environmental, or performance counters. Its role is foundational: it establishes the DIGI-SMI OID namespace that Digi's device-specific and product MIBs build upon to report configuration, status, and fault information for serial servers, gateways, and IoT devices. Any actual hardware/software status monitoring (uptime, connectivity, serial port state, etc.) happens in the product-specific MIBs registered under digiProducts. It is used wherever Digi International networking, console-server, or cellular gateway hardware is deployed and managed via SNMP.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DIGI-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Digi Connect IT 48 (2023) — 48-port out-of-band console access server with cellular failover
- Digi Connect IT 16 (2023) — 16-port console access server for IT infrastructure management
Monitoring Examples
The sample objects (digiEnterprise, digiProducts, digiCommon, digiCapabilities, digiRequirements, digiExperimental) are all OID-tree branch points, not runtime data instances, so this module itself provides nothing to poll. An administrator's actual monitoring would occur against a specific product MIB registered under digiProducts (e.g., a Digi console server or router MIB), not against DIGI-SMI directly. As a pure SMI/registration module, there is no monitoring scenario to invent here.
