Category: Cisco Devices, Hardware and Environment

Description: Provides management objects for virtual machine integration and VM inventory visibility on Cisco UCS/Firepower hypervisor-connected platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-FIREPOWER-VM-MIB?

CISCO-FIREPOWER-VM-MIB is a Cisco proprietary MIB delivering the "VM" (virtual machine) management-information package from the Cisco Firepower/UCS management model, applicable to Firepower appliances and UCS blades integrated with a hypervisor such as VMware vSphere. It exposes inventory and configuration data about compute endpoints connected to virtual switching infrastructure, including hypervisor vendor, host name, and distributed virtual switch (DVS) association. It is used to monitor the software/hardware integration status between the Firepower/UCS platform and its hypervisor environment, confirming a compute endpoint is correctly registered, reachable, and mapped to the expected virtual switch and host. It shares its DN-based object-naming and instance-identifier conventions with the other CISCO-FIREPOWER-*-MIB modules covering the same chassis. It is typically deployed in virtualized data-center environments where Cisco Firepower/UCS hardware provides compute resources to a VMware-based hypervisor cluster, and administrators can consult the CISCO-FIREPOWER-VM-MIB MIB when auditing hypervisor integration.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-FIREPOWER-VM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Firepower security appliance
  • Cisco UCS blade/chassis with hypervisor integration

Monitoring Examples

An operator could poll cfprVmComputeEpTable/cfprVmComputeEpEntry, indexed by cfprVmComputeEpInstanceId, to inventory each virtualization compute endpoint by cfprVmComputeEpHostName and cfprVmComputeEpComputeEpVendor. Fields like cfprVmComputeEpDvsDn and cfprVmComputeEpDvsName show which distributed virtual switch a given endpoint is bound to, and cfprVmComputeEpIntId identifies the specific virtual interface. A missing or unexpected cfprVmComputeEpDvsName for a host would indicate that a blade's hypervisor networking has become misconfigured or disconnected from the intended virtual switch.

What Can Be Monitored

  • compute endpoint inventory
  • hypervisor vendor per endpoint
  • host name mapping
  • distributed virtual switch association
  • virtual interface identifiers
