Category: Domain: System Management, Vendor: Memotec

Description: Monitors OS-level resources including CPU, memory, and task status on CX Memotec devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CXOperatingSystem-MIB?

CXOperatingSystem-MIB is a CX Memotec MIB exposing low-level operating system resource statistics for the embedded OS running on Memotec devices, focused on internal buffer pool and system message queue management. It exposes objects reporting the total number of OS buffers, buffer size, available/free buffer counts, and system message queue occupancy/availability, along with general OS parameter/option settings. This is directly a hardware/software health MIB: buffer exhaustion (free buffer count dropping toward zero) or message queue saturation are classic embedded-OS symptoms of overload, memory pressure, or a software fault, making these objects key early-warning indicators for a device under stress. It is a vendor-private MIB without dependency on standard OS-resource MIBs like HOST-RESOURCES-MIB, being specific to the Memotec embedded architecture. It is deployed on Memotec network devices in telecom/enterprise WAN environments, where CXOperatingSystem-MIB SNMP monitoring is polled by NMS platforms for capacity and stability tracking.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CXOperatingSystem-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • CX Memotec network device

Monitoring Examples

An operator polling cxOsNbBufsFree relative to cxOsNbBufs would detect buffer pool exhaustion, a common precursor to packet drops or device instability on a heavily loaded Memotec unit. Similarly, cxOsNbSystemMsgFree trending toward zero against cxOsNbSystemMsg indicates the internal message queue is saturating, signaling a software processing bottleneck or stuck task. cxOsBufSize confirms the configured buffer size, useful context when correlating buffer exhaustion with traffic volume.

What Can Be Monitored

  • OS buffer pool total/free/available count
  • buffer size
  • system message queue occupancy/free count
  • OS configuration parameters
