Category: Domain: WAN, Vendor: Memotec

Description: Manages LAPB protocol conversion services for WAN connectivity on CX Memotec devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CXLapBConv-MIB?

CXLapBConv-MIB is a CX/Memotec enterprise MIB (cxLapBConv, from CXProduct-SMI) for the LAPB Convergence layer on CX1000-family WAN devices, which bridges LAPB logical links between the LAPBD/IAM layers and a Frame Relay network (or, in future use, between similar cards in the same chassis). It defines a Service Access Point table (lapbcnvSapTable: row status, alias, control to clear statistics, connection state offLine/unbound/notConnected/inProgress/connected, and per-SAP Tx/Rx frame and octet counters plus successful/unsuccessful inbound and outbound connection counts) and a System Route table (lapbcnvSysRouteTable: destination alias, PVC-consolidation sub-reference, route status, and a detailed clear-status enumeration covering allocation failures, access failures, PVC down/busy conditions, and flow/data-size negotiation failures). Together these expose both the configuration and the live connection health of each LAPB conversion path, making it possible to see exactly why a given LAPB route failed to connect. It depends on the RFC1155-SMI/RFC-1212 base types and the CXProduct-SMI enterprise tree, and is deployed on CX/Memotec WAN access devices providing LAPB-to-Frame-Relay protocol conversion, for which a CXLapBConv-MIB download gives the full object set.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CXLapBConv-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Memotec (CX/Memotec, now part of Comtech EF Data) CX1000-series WAN/Frame Relay access devices

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls lapbcnvSapState and lapbcnvSRRouteStatus for a given SAP and its associated system route; a lapbcnvSRRouteStatus of notConnected together with a lapbcnvSRClearStatus of remotePvcDown pinpoints that the far-end Frame Relay PVC, not the local LAPB configuration, is the cause of the failed connection.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LAPB SAP connection state
  • LAPB SAP Tx/Rx frame and octet counters
  • successful/unsuccessful connection counts
  • system route connection status
  • detailed route failure/clear-status codes
