Description: Huawei PPP MIB for managing PPP link control, authentication (PAP/CHAP), and NCP negotiations on dial and WAN interfaces.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HUAWEI-PPP-MIB?
HUAWEI-PPP-MIB is a Huawei proprietary MIB for managing Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) links on dial-up and WAN interfaces, covering PPP MRU (Maximum Receive Unit) negotiation, multilink PPP binding into MP-Groups, and PAP/CHAP authentication configuration. It is primarily a configuration and link-status MIB, exposing negotiated link parameters and authentication settings rather than physical hardware sensors, letting an administrator confirm PPP sessions are negotiating correctly and authenticating successfully. Monitoring this MIB helps detect software/protocol-level faults such as failed PAP/CHAP authentication attempts, MRU mismatches causing fragmentation, or multilink binding failures that would degrade a WAN circuit's effective bandwidth. It builds on the same conceptual base as the standard IETF PPP MIBs (RFC 1471/1472) though implemented as a Huawei private extension. It is typically deployed on Huawei routers terminating dial-up, ISDN, or leased-line WAN connections using PPP or multilink PPP, and the HUAWEI-PPP-MIB download is available from Huawei's support site alongside the router's other private MIBs.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-PPP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Huawei routers with WAN/dial-up interfaces
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll the PPP configuration objects to verify negotiated MRU values match the expected interface MTU, and check PAP/CHAP authentication status objects to confirm a remote peer authenticated successfully after a link flap. For a multilink PPP bundle, checking the MP-Group binding objects would reveal whether all member links are active or if one has dropped out, reducing available bandwidth. Repeated authentication failures visible in this MIB would point to a credential mismatch or misconfigured CHAP secret on one end of the link.
What Can Be Monitored
- PPP link negotiation status
- MRU value
- PAP/CHAP authentication status
- multilink PPP (MP-Group) binding state
