Category: Quality of Service, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages priority queuing parameters and queue scheduling algorithms on Cabletron/Enterasys devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CT-PRIORITY-QUEUING?

This Enterasys/Cabletron MIB (part of the "ctronExp" experimental MIB tree) configures priority queuing and traffic-class scheduling on Cabletron switching hardware, letting administrators map traffic to priority queues and define regeneration/priority values used in QoS scheduling. It exposes tables for user-defined priority mapping (ctUserDefTable, mapping a priority index to a value and number of traffic classes) and priority "regeneration" (ctRegenerationTable, mapping an incoming priority/ID to a regenerated value), plus a traffic-class table. Its monitoring/configuration value is in verifying how traffic is being classified and prioritized on the switch - confirming the number of traffic classes configured and that priority regeneration mappings match intended QoS policy - rather than raw hardware sensor data. It builds on generic IEEE 802.1p/traffic-class priority concepts and sits within Cabletron's broader "ctron" experimental MIB family alongside other CT-prefixed modules. It is typically deployed on Cabletron/Enterasys switches in networks requiring QoS traffic prioritization, monitored by administrators to audit or troubleshoot queue/priority mapping. Engineers can download the CT-PRIORITY-QUEUING file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CT-PRIORITY-QUEUING. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys/Cabletron network switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk ctUserDefTable/ctUserDefEntry to check ctUserDefPriorityValue against ctUserDefPriorityIndex and confirm ctUserDefNumTrafficClass matches the intended number of queues, and check ctRegenerationTable/ctRegenerationEntry (ctRegenerationIndex, ctRegenerationId, ctRegenerationValue) to verify incoming priority values are being regenerated/remapped as expected. A traffic class receiving unexpectedly little bandwidth could be traced back to an incorrect entry in ctTrafClassTable or a mismatched regeneration mapping.

What Can Be Monitored

  • priority-to-queue mapping
  • number of configured traffic classes
  • priority regeneration mapping
  • traffic class configuration
