What Is CTRON-DCM-MIB?
CTRON-DCM-MIB is a small vendor-specific Cabletron Systems MIB, part of the ctDcm branch under the Cabletron enterprise tree, that exposes a single control object, dCMMode, for managing Distributed Chassis Management on Cabletron modular hub/switch systems. The dCMMode object is a read-write integer indicating whether a module operates in standalone(0) mode -- supporting only its own module-level MIBs -- or distributed(1) mode, in which it shares management information with other modules in the chassis and presents a unified view via a chassis IP. Rather than exposing hardware sensors or traffic counters, it is a configuration-state MIB whose value reveals how chassis-wide management visibility is currently architected. Monitoring it helps confirm that a module is correctly participating in (or intentionally isolated from) the chassis-wide management view, which affects whether other per-module MIBs are reachable through the chassis IP. It depends on the broader group of DCM-related MIBs in the ctDcm branch, and it is deployed on Cabletron/Enterasys modular chassis systems alongside those companion MIBs -- the CTRON-DCM-MIB MIB is what administrators load to check this mode setting.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-DCM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron Systems modular chassis/hub platforms (distributed chassis management modules)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls dCMMode on each module in a Cabletron chassis to confirm it is set to distributed(1); a module unexpectedly reporting standalone(0) would indicate it has dropped out of the chassis-wide management view and its per-module data may not be visible through the chassis IP.
What Can Be Monitored
- chassis management mode (standalone vs distributed)
- module-level DCM configuration state
