Category: Device Management, Hardware and Environment, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages Cabletron/Enterasys flash memory storage including file system status, available space, and firmware images.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CT-FLASH-MIB?

CT-FLASH-MIB is an Enterasys/Cabletron MIB for managing flash memory storage on their switching hardware, covering the flash file system's volumes, stored files, and remote file-operation commands (e.g., transferring firmware images to/from the device). It exposes a flash volume status table, a flash file table listing stored files, and a command interface (flashCmdPath, flashCmdNetAddress, flashCmdVolume, flashCmdOperation) with associated status/error reporting for operations like uploading or downloading firmware images. Its monitoring purpose is squarely hardware/software status: available flash space and volume health, which firmware/config files are stored, and whether an in-progress flash operation (e.g., a firmware upgrade) succeeded or failed via flashCmdStatus/flashCmdError. It relies on standard flash file-system concepts and Enterasys's own command-based MIB pattern used across other CT-prefixed modules. It is typically deployed on Enterasys/Cabletron switches where administrators monitor flash storage capacity and manage firmware image transfers remotely via SNMP. Engineers can download the CT-FLASH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CT-FLASH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys/Cabletron network switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll flashVolumeStatusTable/flashVolumeStatusEntry to check available space and health of a flash volume, and walk flashFileTable/flashFileEntry to see which firmware or configuration files are currently stored. When initiating a firmware transfer via flashCmdOperation with flashCmdNetAddress and flashCmdVolume set, monitoring flashCmdStatus and flashCmdError would reveal whether the transfer completed successfully or failed partway through.

What Can Be Monitored

  • flash volume status/free space
  • stored firmware/config files
  • firmware transfer command status
  • flash operation error state
