Category: Vendor: HP/HPE, Wireless and WLAN
Description: Tracks wireless client association history and location on Colubris/HP access point networks.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is COLUBRIS-CLIENT-TRACKING-MIB?
COLUBRIS-CLIENT-TRACKING-MIB is a Colubris Networks (HP) MIB for tracking wireless client association and authentication event history on access points/controllers. It exposes mainly notification-enable configuration and event information objects covering success/failure of association, re-association, authentication, and de-authentication events. It is primarily a software/service-status monitoring MIB: rather than reporting on physical hardware, it lets an operator detect problems in the wireless connectivity service itself, such as a spike in authentication failures indicating a misconfigured security setting or RF interference affecting client connections. It complements COLUBRIS-DEVICE-EVENT-MIB (device-level events) and COLUBRIS-AAA-CLIENT-MIB (the underlying AAA configuration being exercised). It is deployed in enterprise Wi-Fi networks using Colubris/HP access points where administrators want real-time alerting on client connectivity problems. Engineers can download the COLUBRIS-CLIENT-TRACKING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COLUBRIS-CLIENT-TRACKING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Colubris/HP wireless access point/controller
Monitoring Examples
An admin would enable clientTrackingAssociationFailureNotificationEnabled and clientTrackingAuthenticationFailureNotificationEnabled to receive traps whenever clients fail to associate or authenticate. clientTrackingEventInformation carries the details of the triggering event, letting the admin identify which client and failure type occurred. A sudden burst of association or authentication failure notifications across many clients would point to a misconfigured SSID/security setting or localized RF interference rather than an isolated device problem.
What Can Be Monitored
- client association success/failure events
- client re-association success/failure events
- client authentication/de-authentication success/failure events
- enabled/disabled state of each event notification type
