Category: Textual Conventions and Registries, Vendor: Palo Alto/CloudGenix

Description: Defines the Structure of Management Information OID namespace for CloudGenix (Palo Alto) SD-WAN products.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CLOUDGENIX-SMI?

CLOUDGENIX-SMI is a Structure of Management Information module for CloudGenix, an SD-WAN vendor later acquired by Palo Alto Networks; it defines only the enterprise OID namespace (cgxMgmt, cgxObjects, cgxConformance, cgxCompliances, cgxGroups) under which CloudGenix's actual data-bearing MIB modules register their objects. It does not itself expose any runtime data categories such as interfaces, environment, or performance counters -- it is purely a registration/anchor module. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; any such monitoring happens in other CloudGenix MIB modules built on top of this SMI root. It depends on the standard SNMPv2-SMI enterprise-numbering conventions and is imported by other CloudGenix-specific MIBs for their OID assignments. It would appear in a CloudGenix SD-WAN deployment purely as the namespace-defining CLOUDGENIX-SMI reference loaded alongside the vendor's real monitoring MIBs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CLOUDGENIX-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • CloudGenix (Palo Alto Networks) SD-WAN appliances -- this module is only the OID namespace root and is not itself polled

Monitoring Examples

The sample objects provided (cgxObjects, cgxConformance, cgxCompliances, cgxGroups, cgxMgmt) are all top-level branch/registration nodes rather than data-bearing leaves, confirming this is a conformance/namespace module with no runtime data objects of its own. There is therefore no realistic polling scenario to describe against this module directly; monitoring of CloudGenix appliance status would occur via other CloudGenix MIB modules that import and extend this OID tree.
