Description: FreeBSD operating system enterprise OID registration MIB defining the root of the FreeBSD SNMP subtree used by the bsnmpd daemon.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is FREEBSD-MIB?
FREEBSD-MIB is a vendor-neutral registration MIB that simply defines the root enterprise OID subtree assigned to the FreeBSD Project, under which the bsnmpd SNMP daemon and its various modules register their own object identifiers. It does not itself expose runtime data objects; it exists purely as a Structure-of-Management-Information (SMI) placeholder establishing the numeric namespace for FreeBSD-related MIBs. As such it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status itself, but every other bsnmpd module (interfaces, host resources, etc.) that runs on a FreeBSD system is registered beneath this OID root, so it is a prerequisite for interpreting those modules' identities. It depends on and anchors itself under the IANA/SNMPv2-SMI enterprises arc, and its sub-modules typically build on standard MIBs like IF-MIB and HOST-RESOURCES-MIB. It is deployed implicitly on every FreeBSD server or appliance running the bsnmpd SNMP agent, with the FREEBSD-MIB MIB defining the enterprise OID root that all other bsnmpd modules register under.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FREEBSD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral (open-source), FreeBSD-based servers/appliances running bsnmpd
Monitoring Examples
No sample objects are exposed since this module is empty of gettable data (sample_objects is empty) — it defines only the root OID arc for the FreeBSD enterprise. Rather than a polling scenario, a management station would recognize OIDs beginning under the FreeBSD enterprise arc as belonging to bsnmpd modules and would look to those specific sub-MIBs (not this one) for actual interface, CPU, or process counters.
