Description: Monitors HP LaserJet printer hardware status and performance counters via SNMP, covering consumable levels, print engine state, and device health across LaserJet models.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring HP-LASERJET-COMMON-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is HP-LASERJET-COMMON-MIB?

HP-LASERJET-COMMON-MIB is an HP proprietary SNMP module used across the HP LaserJet printer product line to expose common device management objects shared by many LaserJet models. It covers printer engine and controller status, consumable/localization settings, and configuration parameters such as display and memory sizing. This MIB is heavily oriented toward monitoring hardware and firmware status: objects like status-printer and status-controller report engine/controller state, not-ready-printer/not-ready-controller and not-idle flag readiness conditions, on-off-line reports connectivity state, and total-ram-size reports installed memory, together giving a broad picture of the printer's operational health. It is typically used alongside vendor-neutral standards such as the Printer-MIB (RFC 3805) and Host Resources MIB, supplementing them with HP-specific engine/controller detail. It is typically deployed by print-fleet management and helpdesk tools monitoring office and enterprise HP LaserJet printers for uptime and fault conditions. Engineers can download the HP-LASERJET-COMMON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-LASERJET-COMMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP LaserJet printer

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll status-printer and status-controller together with the not-ready-printer, not-ready-controller, and not-idle flags to determine whether a given LaserJet is ready to print, jammed, or in an error state, and check on-off-line to see if the device has gone offline unexpectedly. The auto-continue and continue objects reveal whether the printer is configured to automatically clear certain errors, which affects whether a paper or consumable issue halts the queue outright. total-ram-size and user-nvram-reset provide basic hardware/configuration context, useful for confirming installed memory or tracking NVRAM resets during troubleshooting.

What Can Be Monitored

  • printer engine status
  • controller status
  • not-ready/offline conditions
  • auto-continue error handling setting
  • installed RAM size
  • NVRAM reset events
