Description: LaserJet6P-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LaserJet6P-MIB?

This is a Hewlett-Packard proprietary MIB for the LaserJet 6P, a desktop monochrome laser printer, part of HP's classic private printer MIB lineage alongside similar per-model MIBs. It exposes objects for asset and identity tracking (model name, serial number, device name/location, asset number), memory expansion (SIMM slot type and capacity), and power management (energy-star, sleep-mode, on-off-line). Its monitoring role is centered on hardware status and configuration: confirming installed memory capacity via the SIMM objects, tracking whether the printer is online or has entered a power-saving sleep state, and verifying asset inventory fields used for fleet tracking. It predates and is independent of the standard IETF Printer MIB, functioning purely through HP's private PML-derived object tree. It is typically deployed in small office/workgroup settings, where LaserJet6P-MIB SNMP monitoring polls a single LaserJet 6P for basic reachability, power state, and installed memory.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LaserJet6P-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP LaserJet 6P printer

Monitoring Examples

An admin could poll simm1-type and simm1-capacity to verify a memory upgrade was correctly installed and recognized by the printer before deploying larger print jobs. on-off-line combined with energy-star/sleep-mode reveals whether the printer is powered, ready, or idling in a low-power state, useful for troubleshooting a 'printer offline' complaint. asset-number and device-location are commonly pulled into asset management systems for fleet inventory reporting.

What Can Be Monitored

  • online/off-line status
  • sleep and energy-star power mode
  • installed SIMM memory type/capacity
  • device name, location, and asset number
  • serial number
