What Is CLAB-GW-MIB?

CLAB-GW-MIB is a CableLabs standards-based MIB, part of the DOCSIS/eRouter specification family and referencing the TR-181i2 Device.MAP data model, for managing residential gateway devices that support MAP (Mapping of Address and Port) IPv6 transition mechanisms. Its central structure is clabGWMAPDomainTable, modeling each configured MAP domain's transport mode -- MAP-E (IPv4-in-IPv6 encapsulation) or MAP-T (stateless NAT64 translation) -- along with IPv6 prefix/border-relay settings (clabGWMAPDomainIPv6Prefix, clabGWMAPDomainBRIPv6Prefix) and row lifecycle via clabGWMAPDomainRowStatus, supported by clabGWMAPDomainRuleTable (per-domain mapping rules), clabGWMAPDomainIfTable, and clabGWMAPDomainIfStatsTable (per-interface MAP traffic statistics), plus separate device-info and DNS object groups. This is useful for confirming a gateway's MAP-E/MAP-T configuration matches what the cable operator's border relay expects, and for tracking per-domain traffic via the interface statistics table when diagnosing IPv6 transition connectivity issues. It depends on CLAB-DEF-MIB for shared CableLabs object anchors and complements standard DOCSIS cable-modem MIBs on the same device. It is deployed on CableLabs-compliant residential gateways/eRouters, and the CLAB-GW-MIB MIB is what cable-operator NMS platforms load to manage this MAP configuration at scale.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CLAB-GW-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls clabGWMAPDomainEnable and clabGWMAPDomainStatus in clabGWMAPDomainTable to confirm a MAP domain is enabled and active, then checks clabGWMAPDomainIfStatsTable for traffic counts on that domain's interface; a domain reporting enabled but with zero traffic in the stats table would indicate a MAP-E/MAP-T misconfiguration preventing IPv6 transition traffic from flowing.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using clabGWMAPDomainIfStatsBytesSent OID:

Select a CableLabs-compliant residential gateway / eRouter as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type clabGWMAPDomainIfStatsBytesSent into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of bytes sent. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in bytes), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
