Description: Manages Network Interface Device (NID) objects at the CableLabs ANI layer in DOCSIS deployments.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CLAB-ANI-NID-MIB?
CLAB-ANI-NID-MIB is a CableLabs specification MIB defining management objects for Network Interface Devices (NIDs) at the Access Network Interface (ANI) layer within DOCSIS cable access networks. It exposes configuration data covering device identification, PTP multicast MAC addressing, remote-access protocol enablement (Telnet, TFTP), and client authentication/authorization server settings including primary and secondary AAA server addresses and ports. Its monitoring value lies mainly in software/service configuration and security status: an operator can verify whether Telnet or TFTP management access is enabled (a security exposure if left on), confirm the client authentication status against the configured AAA servers, and receive notifications from clabAniNidNotifications when relevant configuration or status changes occur. It is defined as part of the DOCSIS/CableLabs MIB family and depends on standard SNMPv2 conventions and DOCSIS network architecture concepts. It is typically deployed on DOCSIS Network Interface Devices sitting at the demarcation point between the cable operator's access network and a subscriber's premises. Engineers can download the CLAB-ANI-NID-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CLAB-ANI-NID-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- DOCSIS Network Interface Device (NID) at the cable ANI demarcation point
Monitoring Examples
An operator would check clabAniNidCfgTelnetEnabled and clabAniNidCfgTftpEnabled to confirm remote management protocols are set per policy, and poll clabAniNidCfgClientAuthStatus alongside clabAniNidCfgAuthServerServiceType to verify the NID is successfully authenticating against clabAniNidCfgPrimaryServerIpAddress (with clabAniNidCfgSecondaryServerIpAddress as fallback). A clabAniNidNotifications trap firing when authentication status changes would flag a NID that has lost contact with its AAA server, a service-affecting condition for that subscriber drop.
What Can Be Monitored
- Telnet/TFTP management access enablement
- client authentication status
- primary/secondary AAA server configuration
- PTP multicast MAC configuration
- NID configuration change notifications
