Category: Device Management, Vendor: RADLAN/Cisco SB
Description: Manages Cisco Small Business configuration database (CDB) for startup and running configuration storage.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCOSB-CDB-MIB?
CISCOSB-CDB-MIB is a small, private Cisco Small Business MIB covering the switch's Configuration Database (CDB), the persistent store for startup and running configuration. It exposes only a couple of objects reflecting whether the startup configuration has changed and whether a manual reboot has been triggered. Its monitoring value is narrow but useful for configuration-management workflows: detecting unsaved configuration drift and confirming reboot state, which relates to overall device configuration/software status rather than hardware health. It has no significant dependency on other MIBs beyond the vendor's private enterprise tree. It is typically used on Cisco Small Business switches/routers by management tools that need to know if a running configuration differs from what's saved to flash. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-CDB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-CDB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business switch/router
Monitoring Examples
A management script would poll rlStartupCDBChanged to determine whether the running configuration has diverged from the saved startup configuration, prompting an alert to save changes before a power cycle. rlManualReboot could be checked or set to confirm whether a reboot was operator-initiated versus an unexpected reset, which helps distinguish planned maintenance from a device fault.
What Can Be Monitored
- startup configuration changed flag
- manual reboot status
