Description: Manages Cisco Small Business CLI (Command Line Interface) scripting and remote command execution.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCOSB-CLI-MIB?
CISCOSB-CLI-MIB is a Cisco Small Business (Linksys/RLine-derived) private MIB that allows a management station to remotely drive the device's command-line interface over SNMP, including a remote CLI scripting/file-based command execution feature. It exposes configuration objects such as a CLI access password and inactivity timer, plus a remote command queue with per-command execution state and mode. This is primarily a software-status and control MIB rather than a hardware-health one: it lets an operator monitor whether a submitted remote CLI command is pending, executing, or completed, and check the MIB's own version for compatibility. It has no significant dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMPv2 conventions used throughout the CISCOSB private-enterprise tree. It is typically used in small-business network deployments where a central management tool needs to push CLI configuration scripts to many switches or routers without interactive console access. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-CLI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-CLI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business switches and routers
Monitoring Examples
A management application would write a command string into rlCLIremoteCLIcommand and then poll rlCLIremoteCLIexecutionState to see whether the device is idle, busy, or has finished processing that command, using rlCLIremoteCLIcommandIndex to track it in rlCLIremoteCLIcommandsTable/rlCLIremoteCLIcommandsEntry. If rlCLIremoteCLIexecutionState remains stuck in a busy state far longer than expected, it signals the device's CLI engine is unresponsive or the command is malformed. rlCliFileEnable and rlCliFileEnableAfterReset indicate whether file-based CLI scripting is currently permitted, which an auditor might check to confirm remote scripting isn't left enabled unintentionally.
What Can Be Monitored
- remote CLI command execution state
- remote CLI command queue/index
- CLI file-scripting enable status
- CLI session timeout
- MIB/software version
