Description: Provides experimental Cisco wireless LAN management objects for 802.11 interface configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-WIRELESS-EXP-MIB?

CISCO-WIRELESS-EXP-MIB is an experimental Cisco MIB for point-to-point wireless radio links used in Cisco's fixed wireless bridging equipment. It exposes hardware inventory data for the radio card, RF unit, and radio system, including part numbers, board revisions, serial numbers, and firmware/image versions. It is used primarily for monitoring hardware identity and software revision status of wireless radio components rather than live traffic statistics, letting an operator confirm which firmware image and hardware assembly is installed on a deployed radio link. It is a Cisco proprietary experimental module and does not have strong dependencies beyond standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions. Typical deployment is on Cisco point-to-point wireless bridge links connecting buildings or towers, where field technicians need to audit installed hardware/firmware inventory remotely. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-WIRELESS-EXP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WIRELESS-EXP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco point-to-point wireless radio bridge
  • Cisco fixed wireless RF unit

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cwrRfEntityTable / cwrRfEntityEntry (indexed by cwrRfEntityIndex) to enumerate each radio entity on a link and read cwrRfSwRevision to confirm the running firmware version matches the expected baseline after a maintenance window. Objects like cwrRfBoardPartNumberClass, cwrRfBoardPartNumberBase, and cwrRfSerialNumber let the admin verify hardware inventory against asset records, and a mismatch or unexpected part number would flag a swapped or counterfeit board.

What Can Be Monitored

  • radio card/RF unit inventory
  • firmware/software revision (cwrRfSwRevision)
  • board and assembly part numbers
  • board revision
  • serial number
