Description: Extends Cisco WAN RPM (Route Processor Module) connection management with additional attributes.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-WAN-RPM-CONN-EXT-MIB?
CISCO-WAN-RPM-CONN-EXT-MIB extends Cisco's WAN ATM connection MIB with additional attributes for provisioning PVC endpoints and Soft PVCs (SPVCs) on the MGX Route Processor Module (RPM). It exposes an extension table adding subinterface, VCD (virtual circuit descriptor), AAL encapsulation type, virtual-template, and OAM (Operation, Administration, and Maintenance) loopback/retry configuration to each RPM connection. Its monitoring role is chiefly in verifying the software/configuration-level health of RPM-hosted ATM connections: OAM-related retry-up and retry-down counters and the loopback transmit interval reveal whether OAM loopback checks are detecting connection failures or flapping. As stated in the module description, it works together with CISCO-WAN-ATM-CONN-MIB, which provides the base connection objects this MIB extends. It is deployed on Cisco MGX platforms using RPM cards for ATM PVC/SPVC provisioning with virtual-template-based subinterfaces, and network engineers typically consult the CISCO-WAN-RPM-CONN-EXT-MIB MIB directly when provisioning or troubleshooting these connections.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-RPM-CONN-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco MGX Route Processor Module (RPM)
Monitoring Examples
An engineer would poll cwRpmChanExtTable/cwRpmChanExtEntry to check cwrChanOamRetryDownCount against cwrChanOamRetryUpCount for a given connection, where a high down-retry count relative to up-retries indicates an unstable or failing SPVC path being caught by OAM loopback monitoring. cwrChanVirtualTemplate and cwrChanSubInterface would be checked to confirm the correct subinterface template is applied to a connection. cwrChanOamManage indicates whether OAM management is enabled at all for that channel, which must be true for the retry counters to be meaningful.
What Can Be Monitored
- OAM loopback retry up/down counts
- OAM loopback transmit interval
- subinterface and VCD assignment
- AAL encapsulation type
- virtual template configuration

RFC description
Cisco MIB extension module for WAN RPM (Remote Port Module) connection management on Cisco WAN switching platforms like MGX and IGX series, defining objects for configuring and monitoring connection endpoints.
