Category: SNMP Framework, VLAN and Bridging, Vendor: Cisco Devices

Description: Defines agent capability statements for Cisco VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP) domain management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-VTP-CAPABILITY?

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing which objects and features of CISCO-VTP-MIB (VLAN Trunking Protocol domain management) a given Cisco device or software release implements. It belongs to Cisco's VLAN/Layer 2 switching technology area but carries no runtime counters, sensors, or configuration objects of its own. As a pure compliance statement it plays no direct role in hardware or software health monitoring, serving instead to inform management stations of supported VTP feature groups. It has an explicit dependency on CISCO-VTP-MIB, whose object groups it maps to specific device releases. It is shipped as part of the standard MIB/capabilities bundle for Cisco switches running VTP. Engineers can download the CISCO-VTP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VTP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco switches running VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP)

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects — it maps device/software releases to the OBJECT-GROUPs and NOTIFICATION-GROUPs of CISCO-VTP-MIB they support, so no live monitoring scenario applies beyond a feature/version compliance check.
